Clinical Tools is presenting both a product demo and an in-progress research report at the 2017 International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare.

2017-01-29 Sunday Presentation: Building Smart Games that Challenge Students with Clinical Cases ID #25833  Serious Games & Virtual Environments Showcase & Arcade

  • Short Description: With NIH/NCATS funding (SBIR Grant # R44TR000576 iPadEMR Pain Management Simulator: Tablet-based Skills Development), we are creating the Clinical Encounters Case Building platform to help educators generate, disseminate and share web/tablet games that challenge health professions students with scenario-based clinical training. Scenarios have unique combinations of conditions and issues discovered by interacting with a simulated electronic health record. Users select clinical evaluations and interpret results, make clinical decisions, and experience realistic clinical outcomes.

2017-01-31 Tuesday 11:45 AM – 12:45 PM Poster: Clinical Encounter: Obesity Treatment Challenge Simulation for Medical Students. Tanner, Rossie. Work-in-progress/Research Abstract #25806. Presentation Category: Serious Games & Virtual Learning.

  • Goal: To determine whether clinical simulation scenarios using branched learning can be effective as clinical skills learning tools for medical students, as well as what student design preferences exist to enhance the effectiveness of these tools. Response to this needs analysis and preferences testing will be used to design the branched learning clinical scenario skills training tool.
