Chronic pain is a common problem and the increased prescribing of opioids has resulted in the current U.S. epidemic of addiction to opioid pain medications. We have developed a clinical training experience involving a hybrid Oculus Rift VR Headset experience combining a patient encounter in a 3D virtual primary care clinic with an investigation of a 3D virtual brain. We postulate that science-minded physicians will enjoy building a more robust understanding of brain structures when the process is engaging and quickly yields a robust understanding of the neuroscience associated with the patient’s condition and treatment.
