With funding from NIH/NIAAA, we previously developed a novel way of interviewing standardized patients (SP) via Internet-chat in real time. Our initial studies validated the use of the Internet-chat Web-based OSCE as an assessment of competence and performance of SBIRT clinical skills specific to alcohol abuse. A new study, funded by NIH/NIDA, will validate the Web-based OSCE for learning and subsequent ability to practice key SBIRT clinical skills on tobacco and alcohol abuse
